About Me

Home » About Me

Hello!

I’m a student at Newcastle University, currently doing a Master’s in International Development and Education. I have developed this blog as part of the module The Future of Learning in the Digital Age. Join me as I delve into the transformative power of the Internet and explore how it reshapes our understanding of education in the digital age.

Alongside my Master’s, I work as a Teaching Assistant. This half-term, I have predominantly worked at Wardley Primary School with a class of SEN students. I have also volunteered as a Humanitarian Educator with the British Red Cross since July 2024 (check out the Twitter post below). It will therefore be very interesting to apply what I learn in this module about the theoretical and contemporary discussions on the internet’s growth and the rising use of digital technologies to my own teaching methods in these roles.

Aside from this, I enjoy doing yoga, swimming, learning Arabic, spending time with friends over good food and drinks, going to concerts, or engaging in spontaneous plans from an unplanned night out to a £12 flight to Poland.

Where am I From?

& Where is Home?

I was born in England, then moved to the UAE at the age of two. I attended the same school for 15 years in the UAE, then moved back to England in 2021 to start my undergraduate degree in Sociology at Newcastle. Having lived in Newcastle for the past 3 years, I would consider it home (I’ve been to many more £2 Tuesdays on Osborne Road than times I’ve been to Darlington), though technically, Darlington is where I’m ‘from’.

I find “Where are you from?” an interesting, personal question. It’s even more intriguing to see how people define that – based on where they’ve lived the longest, where they currently live, where their parents are from, where they were born or where their family members were born. My brother was born in the UAE, my mum in Darlington, and my dad in South Africa – just to add another country into the mix!

As you can see, I find it a complicated but entertaining question. Honestly, my response mainly depends on my level of energy for explanation at the time of questioning!

When Do I Feel Most Alive?

I feel most alive when I’m exploring new places with friends and loved ones, enjoying good food and drinks together, preferably in the sun. In those moments, whether engaging in exciting activities or simply relaxing, I’m fully present and free from worries about the future or the past. It’s a time when I feel happy and at ease, appreciating what I have without dwelling on what I may lack.
